Like <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/02\/13\/chatgpt-will-now-remember-and-forget-things-you-tell-it-to\/\">ChatGPT\u2019s memory<\/a>, Gemini\u2019s adds context to the current conversation. For example, tell Gemini to remember foods you like and the next time you ask the bot for restaurant recommendations, it might tailor its suggestions to your culinary leanings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Memory is only available for subscribers to Google\u2019s $20-per-month <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/09\/10\/what-is-google-gemini-ai\/\">Google One AI Premium<\/a> plan, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/9to5google.com\/2024\/11\/19\/gemini-remember-saved-info\/#:~:text=You%20can%20now%20ask%20Gemini%20to%20remember%20your%20preferences%20with%20memory%20feature&amp;text=With%20a%20new%20remember%20feature,tailored%20precisely%20to%20your%20needs.%E2%80%9D\">per<\/a> 9to5Google, and it hasn\u2019t yet made its way to the Gemini apps on iOS and Android \u2014 just the web client. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1508\" height=\"1585\" src=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Screenshot-2024-11-19-at-11.34.49AM-1-e1732035982307.png?w=647\" alt=\"Google Gemini memories\" class=\"wp-image-2917720\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><span class=\"wp-block-image__credits\"><strong>Image Credits:<\/strong>Google<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Gemini UI, Google gives a few examples of potentially useful priming memories, like \u201cUse simple language and avoid jargon,\u201d \u201cI can only write code in JavaScript,\u201d and \u201cWhen trip planning, include the cost per day.\u201d The company <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/gemini\/answer\/13594961?hl=en&amp;ref_topic=13278591#exp_tech&amp;zippy=%2Cwhat-happens-when-i-ask-gemini-apps-to-save-info\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">notes<\/a> that the feature, which only supports English-language prompts for now, can be switched off at any time \u2014 but that memories are stored until manually deleted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Gemini memories aren\u2019t used for model training. \u201cYour saved information is never shared or used to train the model,\u201d a Google spokesperson told TechCrunch via email.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Memory features such as ChatGPT\u2019s and Gemini\u2019s can be exploited if not carefully engineered with guardrails.
