You see most of the former teams attend, so we’ll have that moment and take pictures and videos. It’s something that’ll last a lifetime.”

The Celtics will be the first Boston team to make the traditional champion’s visit to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue since the Red Sox did so after their 2018 World Series win. The Patriots did not travel to the White House after their most recent Super Bowl victory in 2019.

“I think it’s going to be fun,” Derrick White said. “That’s something that growing up, you see teams that won championships go to the White House and just kind of celebrate that moment together. Just to be one of those teams that won a championship and go to the White House and celebrate with a great team and great people, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

White added: “I think it’s going to be important just being with the team. Obviously, we’re always close and we’re always together, so this is another thing we can all do together and just kind of enjoy that moment as a team.”

It’ll be a first-time trip to America’s most famous building for the majority of Boston’s roster, as only guard Jrue Holiday won an NBA title before last season (with Milwaukee in 2021). Al Horford also visited the White House in 2006 after winning a college national championship with Florida.

“Yeah, that was awesome,” Horford said. “That was a really cool experience getting to go to the White House to be there. We had a blast. They did the thing on the lawn outside in the courtyard. There were other college teams there, as well, so it was cool to interact with some of them and do that stuff. It’s a really neat experience. It’s an honor to be able to go to the White House.”

Horford, who had to wait 17 years for his first NBA championship, is looking forward to enjoying this visit with his teammates.

“It’s going to be awesome,” the 38-year-old said. “I’m excited about it. It’s something that over the years you always watch all the champions go there, and that’s kind of what is done. So being in this position, I’m going to soak it all in.”

The only member of the Celtics who didn’t express excitement over the trip was Mazzulla. Asked after Monday’s practice whether he had any thoughts on visiting the White House, the head coach replied: “No, sir.”

The Celtics will visit the Washington Wizards on Friday night in their third of four NBA Cup group-play games.

Source: politics.einnews.com…

The Celtics proved they’re still the NBA’s top dogs Tuesday night with a gritty win over previously unbeaten Cleveland.
