Metcalf<\/a><\/strong> have each become two of the NFL\u2019s better wide receivers \u2014 each being chosen in the 2019 second round. The <strong>Seahawks<\/strong> nabbed Metcalf at No. 64 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2019\/04\/seahawks-trade-up-for-d-k-metcalf\">via trade-up<\/a>, and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/42430943\/sources-seahawks-eyed-deebo-samuel-dk-metcalf-pairing-2019-draft\">ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter notes<\/a> the team had aimed to first draft Samuel at No. 35. GM <strong>John Schneider<\/strong> had worked out a trade-up from No. 37 to No. 35, via the Raiders, but Schefter adds the Silver and Black backed out of the deal. The Raiders instead dealt with the Jaguars, who drafted <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TaylJa02.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jawaan Taylor<\/a><\/strong> at 35. The 49ers chose Samuel at 36.<\/p>\n<p>The Seahawks still do not know why the Raiders reneged on the trade, Schefter adds. The Seahawks initially held a higher second-round choice than the Jags, who picked at 38. After Samuel went off the board, Seattle dealt 37 to Carolina (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=LittGr01,LittGr00&amp;search=Greg+Little&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Greg Little<\/a><\/strong>) and drafted safety <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BlaiMa01.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Marquise Blair<\/a><\/strong> at No. 47. The Seahawks had planned to pair Samuel and Metcalf, rather than the Ole Miss product \u2014 who famously fell to No. 64 after having teams divided during the pre-draft process \u2014 being a Samuel fallback option. Though, Metcalf as a WR contingency plan \u2014 with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BaldDo00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Doug Baldwin<\/a><\/strong> <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2019\/04\/doug-baldwins-injuries-may-force-retirement\">retirement rumors circulating during the draft<\/a> \u2014 rather than pairing him with Samuel makes a bit more sense due to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LockTy00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tyler Lockett<\/a><\/strong> being just 27 at the time. Samuel and Metcalf are going into the final year of their contracts; each team rebuffed trade offers this year.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the latest from the NFC West:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Samuel\u2019s San Francisco status may have changed once <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AiyuBr00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Brandon Aiyuk<\/a><\/strong> suffered an ACL tear. The older <strong>49ers<\/strong> WR had been a rumored 2025 trade chip, as the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2024\/03\/49ers-jed-york-addresses-future-brock-purdy-extension\">team prepares for a<\/a> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/P\/PurdBr00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Brock Purdy<\/a><\/strong> payday. Although some around the league have <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2024\/11\/nfc-west-notes-49ers-cousins-baker-cardinals-prater-seahawks-lbs\">wondered if the 49ers will pay Purdy<\/a> the going rate (mentioning a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CousKi00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kirk Cousins<\/a><\/strong> trade as a backup plan), <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/5932819\/2024\/11\/19\/49ers-mailbag-kyle-shanahan-window-closing\/?source=emp_shared_article\">The Athletic\u2019s Matt Barrows expects<\/a> Purdy to indeed receive a top-market deal from San Francisco. Purdy going from Mr. Irrelevant to a deal in the $55-$60MM-per-year range would represent one of the most dramatic rises in NFL history; the 2025 offseason is the window for that to happen.<\/li>\n<li>Staying on the 49ers-in-2025 theme, the team has seen promising early returns from second-round rookie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GreeRe00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Renardo Green<\/a><\/strong>. The 49ers have viewed Green as a player who <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2024\/05\/49ers-notes-cousins-deebo-gipson-green-gray\">can work inside and on the perimeter<\/a>; that matches <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LenoDe00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Deommodore Lenoir<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s profile. Lenoir is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2024\/11\/49ers-deommodore-lenoir-agree-to-extension\">now signed long term<\/a>, but All-Pro <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WardCh01.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Charvarius Ward<\/a><\/strong> is in a contract year. With Lenoir locked in, Ward appears headed back to free agency. As such, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/5921170\/2024\/11\/13\/deommodore-lenoir-49ers-contract-kyle-shanahan\/?source=emp_shared_article\">Barrows adds<\/a> Green should be considered the favorite to start opposite Lenoir on the boundary in 2025. Pro Football Focus rates Green as the sixth-best CB regular this season, albeit on only 298 snaps.<\/li>\n<li>While <strong>Sean McVay<\/strong> said right tackle <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HaveRo00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Rob Havenstein<\/a><\/strong> could be back this week, the eighth-year <strong>Rams<\/strong> HC indicated (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sarahbarshop\/status\/1857501860925681834\">via ESPN.com\u2019s Sarah Barshop<\/a>) <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HigbTy00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tyler Higbee<\/a><\/strong> remains weeks away from returning. Higbee is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2024\/08\/rams-te-tyler-higbee-to-begin-season-on-reserve-pup-list\">still rehabbing the ACL and MCL tears<\/a> sustained during the Rams\u2019 wild-card loss to the Lions. The ninth-year tight end remains on Los Angeles\u2019 reserve\/PUP list. Havenstein has missed the Rams\u2019 past two games with an ankle issue.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MoodJa00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jake Moody<\/a><\/strong> missed time due to injury this season, being one of three <strong>49ers<\/strong> kickers to go down, and did not impress upon return. Moody missed three field goals against the Buccaneers, prompting a heated Samuel to take issue with the recovered kicker (and long snapper <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/P\/PeppTa00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-20_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Taybor Pepper<\/a><\/strong>). <strong>John Lynch<\/strong> said later the 49ers have not considered replacing Moody. \u201c<em>We didn\u2019t blink<\/em>,\u201d Lynch told KNBR (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LombardiHimself\/status\/1857457014290657641\">h\/t The Athletic\u2019s David Lombardi<\/a>). \u201c<em>We have a lot of faith in this kid.
