On Wednesday, Sutskever tweeted that he&#8217;s starting a company called <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ilyasut\/status\/1803472978753303014\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">Safe Superintelligence.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will pursue safe superintelligence in a straight shot, with one focus, one goal, and one product. We will do it through revolutionary breakthroughs produced by a small cracked team,&#8221; wrote Sutskever. <\/p>\n<section x-data=\"window.newsletter()\" x-init=\"init()\" class=\"relative p-8 my-12 mx-auto w-full max-w-3xl border md:p-12 md:my-16 border-secondary-300\" data-ga-impression=\"\" data-ga-category=\"newsletters\" data-ga-module=\"incontent_nl_signup\" data-ga-label=\"mashablelightspeed\">\n<p>\n            Mashable Light Speed\n        <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p>\n    <a class=\"text-gray-600\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ilyasut\/status\/1803472979873128498\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\"><br \/>\n        Tweet may have been deleted<br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The company&#8217;s website is currently just a text message signed by Sutskever as well as co-founders Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy (<a href=\"https:\/\/dcgross.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">Gross<\/a> was a co-founder of search engine Cue, which was acquired by Apple in 2013, while <a href=\"https:\/\/ai.stanford.edu\/~danilevy\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">Levy<\/a> ran the Optimization team at OpenAI). The message reiterates safety as the key component of building an artificial superintelligence. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We approach safety and capabilities in tandem, as technical problems to be solved through revolutionary engineering and scientific breakthroughs. We plan to advance capabilities as fast as possible while making sure our safety always remains ahead,&#8221; the message reads. &#8220;Our singular focus means no distraction by management overhead or product cycles, and our business model means safety, security, and progress are all insulated from short-term commercial pressures.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"flex mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-3xl font-sans text-lg leading-normal md:text-xl md:leading-7\">\n        <span class=\"font-bold text-primary-400\">SEE ALSO:<\/span><br \/>\n        <a href=\"\/article\/apple-reportedly-paid-openai-zero-dollars-chatgpt-partnership\" class=\"flex items-center text-secondary-300\"><br \/>\n            <span class=\"ml-1\">Apple reportedly paid OpenAI zero dollars for its ChatGPT partnership<\/span><br \/>\n            <svg class=\"ml-1 w-4 h-4 font-normal fill-current\"><use href=\"\/images\/icons\/spritemap.svg#sprite-arrow-right-thin\"\/><\/svg><br \/>\n        <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n<p>While Sutskever never publicly explained why he left OpenAI, instead <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ilyasut\/status\/1790517455628198322\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">praising<\/a> the company&#8217;s &#8220;miraculous&#8221; trajectory, it&#8217;s notable that safety is at the centre of his new AI product. <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/elon-musk-lawsuit-openai\" target=\"_self\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">Musk<\/a> and several others warned that OpenAI is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/06\/04\/technology\/openai-culture-whistleblowers.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">reckless<\/a> about building AGI (artificial general intelligence), and the very departure of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-05-17\/openai-dissolves-key-safety-team-after-chief-scientist-ilya-sutskever-s-exit?embedded-checkout=true\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">Sutskever and others<\/a> in OpenAI&#8217;s safety-focused team indicate the company may have been lax when it comes to making sure AGI is being built in a safe way. Musk also has beef with Microsoft&#8217;s involvment in OpenAI, claiming that the company has been <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/elon-musk-lawsuit-openai\" target=\"_self\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">transformed<\/a> from an nonprofit into a &#8220;closed-source de facto subsidiary&#8221; of Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-06-19\/openai-co-founder-plans-new-ai-focused-research-lab\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">Bloomberg<\/a>, published on Wednesday, Sutskever and co-founders did not name any backers, though Gross said that raising capital is not going to be a problem for the startup.
