{"id":18059,"date":"2024-11-21T00:30:44","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T00:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gpt.m2mbeta.com\/?p=18059"},"modified":"2024-11-21T00:30:44","modified_gmt":"2024-11-21T00:30:44","slug":"tiktoks-ai-generated-content-is-getting-watermarked-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gpt.m2mbeta.com\/?p=18059","title":{"rendered":"TikToks AI-generated content is getting watermarked"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"article\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/category\/tiktok\" target=\"_self\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">TikTok<\/a> is taking another stab at curbing the rise of <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/category\/artificial-intelligence\" target=\"_self\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">AI<\/a>-generated misinformation taking over social media platforms, as it announces a new way its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/tiktok-will-automatically-label-more-ai-generated-content-in-its-app-120001090.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">watermarking (or labelling) AI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The platform <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.tiktok.com\/en-us\/partnering-with-our-industry-to-advance-ai-transparency-and-literacy\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">announced<\/a> today that it is joining the Adobe-led <a href=\"https:\/\/contentauthenticity.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">Content Authenticity Initiative<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/c2pa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA)<\/a>, a nonprofit-backed project to align tech and social media companies on best practices for what is known as &#8220;content provenance,&#8221; or the &#8220;basic, trustworthy facts about the origins of a piece of digital content.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While TikTok already labels AI-generated content (AIGC) made using its own AI effects, and requires <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/tiktok-ai-deepfake-content-label\" target=\"_self\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">users to label their own uploaded AI content<\/a>, the new policy will apply automatic oversight to content made offsite. TikTok&#8217;s stated intention with the collaboration is for an auto-labeling system to read Content Credentials in order to parse an image or video&#8217;s metadata and quickly identify it as AI-generated.<\/p>\n<p>The platform also said it would begin attaching Content Credentials to TikTok content itself, so that others can learn when, where, and how the content was made or edited. WITNESS also provides guidelines and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gen-ai.witness.org\/?pk_vid=2d845fed27f84c27171526704008f95b\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">advice for discerning deepfakes<\/a> and other AI threats.  <\/p>\n<p>Other tech platforms, similarly flooded with the products of generative AI, have taken their own paths toward better labeling and watermarking. Meta announced <a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2024\/04\/metas-approach-to-labeling-ai-generated-content-and-manipulated-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\">new AI content labels<\/a> in April. Not long after, Snapchat announced it was adding <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/snapchat-generative-ai-watermarks\" target=\"_self\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">an automatic, but user-visible, watermark<\/a> to all content created using its in-house AI tools. The transparent Snapchat logo watermark is added to images once they are downloaded to a device or exported off the platform.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok, meanwhile, launches these intended AI protections within a flurry of attention aimed at the platform&#8217;s role in global organizing and its potential impact on the upcoming presidential election.
