{"id":18076,"date":"2024-11-21T07:46:22","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T07:46:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gpt.m2mbeta.com\/?p=18076"},"modified":"2024-11-21T07:46:22","modified_gmt":"2024-11-21T07:46:22","slug":"trump-team-mulls-creating-first-ever-white-house-crypto-role","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gpt.m2mbeta.com\/?p=18076","title":{"rendered":"Trump team mulls creating first-ever White House crypto role"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>WASHINGTON \u2013 US President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s team is holding discussions with the digital asset industry about whether to create a new White House post solely dedicated to cryptocurrency policy, according to people familiar with the transition efforts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s team is vetting candidates to serve in such a role, the people said. <\/p>\n<p>If created, it would be the first ever crypto-specific White House job, and would underscore the influence the nascent industry stands to wield in the incoming administration.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear whether there will be a senior White House staff position or \u201ccrypto czar\u201d \u2013 Washington parlance for a point person to oversee policy and regulation across the federal government, the people said. <\/p>\n<p>Crypto industry advocates are pushing for the role to have a direct line to Trump, they said.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump transition team did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/world\/united-states\/trump-says-he-ll-announce-a-plan-to-make-us-the-crypto-capital\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Trump embraced the crypto industry on the campaign trail,<\/a> vowing to fire current Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler, who\u2019s cracked down on the digital asset industry, as well as scale back regulation and create a new crypto presidential advisory council. <\/p>\n<p>Crypto advocates are currently jockeying for spots in that group, according to several people familiar with the discussions.<\/p>\n<p>Trump met with executives from Bitcoin mining companies and crypto exchanges multiple times over the summer and addressed a Bitcoin conference in July. <\/p>\n<p>The president-elect also has several crypto businesses himself. <\/p>\n<p>He released his fourth collection of nonfungible tokens recently, and also helped launch an amorphous new venture called World Liberty Financial.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions about the crypto role have included the person leading a small staff, and acting as a liaison between Congress, the White House and the various agencies with jurisdiction over crypto, including the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the people said.<\/p>\n<p>Crypto allies have travelled in recent days to Trump\u2019s private club Mar-a-Lago, where the president-elect\u2019s team is holding personnel discussions and interviewing prospective candidates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Former Coinbase Global Inc and Binance US executive Brian Brooks, who is also a potential candidate for SEC chair, met with Trump on Nov 19, according to people familiar with the meeting. <\/p>\n<p>Coinbase Global Inc chief executive officer Brian Armstrong also spoke with Trump this week, the people said. A Coinbase spokesperson declined to comment.
