Have the ceremonies. It\u2019s something you\u2019ve always watched as a kid, and now, to be a part of that tradition, it\u2019s something we\u2019ll always remember.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cSomething we\u2019ll always remember.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jayson Tatum on the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/celtics?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@celtics<\/a> visit to the White House! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/H3wPZhCiQz\">pic.twitter.com\/H3wPZhCiQz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NBA (@NBA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NBA\/status\/1859735345782456503?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 21, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\">https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js<\/a><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2>Chip on Jayson Tatum\u2019s Shoulder<\/h2>\n<p>Tatum was only about 10 years old when the Celtics last visited the White House in 2008 when Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/los-angeles-lakers\/rajon-rondo-on-lakers-celtics-championships\/\">Rajon Rondo<\/a> formed the nucleus of that championship team that beat his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-JZ-HaCjXt4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">childhood idol<\/a> Kobe Bryant and the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/los-angeles-lakers\">Los Angeles Lakers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, he\u2019s part of the new generation of Celtics heroes.<\/p>\n<p>Tatum averaged 22.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.0 steals in the 2024 NBA Finals as the Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks in five games.<\/p>\n<p>After losing the NBA Finals MVP trophy to his teammate <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nba\/player\/jaylen-brown\/\">Jaylen Brown<\/a>, who averaged 20.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.6 steals, 7-4 in media votes because of his inefficiency (38.8% field goal shooting, 26.3% 3-point shooting and team-high 3.2 turnovers), and his benching in Team USA\u2019s Olympic gold medal win in Paris, Tatum has been playing with a chip on his shoulder this season.<\/p>\n<p>Tatum is leading the Celtics\u2019 charge, averaging 29.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and a career-high 5.9 assists and 4.3 3-pointers made per game. He\u2019s also shooting 46.4% from the floor and a remarkable 39.4% from the 3-point line as the Celtics sit second in the Eastern Conference with a 12-3 record.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2>Jayson Tatum Nearly Asked for a Trade<\/h2>\n<p>After the Celtics selected him as the No. 3 pick in 2017, Tatum was not keen on playing in Boston.<\/p>\n<p>Not just because it was the arch-rival of his childhood hero, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, but more so with the presence of Gordon Hayward.<\/p>\n<p>He viewed Howard at the time as a threat to his starting spot and playing time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got drafted, then Gordon Hayward signed with the Celtics,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vWZEwkM6zdU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Tatum said on the \u201cClub 520\u201d podcast on Monday, November 4<\/a>. \u201cI called my agent, like, \u2018Yo, I gotta get traded.\u2019 That was before the NBA Summer League, before I ever played a game [for Boston].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was like, \u2018Relax, you gotta chill.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Yo, I\u2019m trying to play. I didn\u2019t get drafted to come off the bench and not start.\u2019 He was like, \u2018You\u2019re in a great organization. They\u2019re gonna teach you how to play the right way.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, Hayward left Utah to join Boston in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/news\/gordon-hayward-signs-boston-celtics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">four-year max deal worth $128 million<\/a>\u00a0to reunite with his coach at Butler, Brad Stevens, now the Celtics team president.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately for the Celtics, Tatum calmed down after his talk with his agent and stayed in Boston.<\/p>\n<p>Tatum\u2019s fears were allayed when Stevens started him alongside Hayward in the Celtics frontcourt. But Hayward suffered a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/21057093\/gordon-hayward-suffers-leg-injury-boston-celtics-debut\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">season-ending leg injury<\/a>\u00a0in his Celtics debut.
