Whether it\u2019s making the right reads within the halfcourt offense to hit open teammates for open looks, or having the instincts to reach for a a steal in a clutch moment, timing is a huge part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3995\/jrue-holiday\">Jrue Holiday\u2019s game. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>And for Celtics fans, could there be a better time to welcome a son into the world than the night Boston clinched their NBA-record NBA title last summer?<\/p>\n<p>Dorchester residents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2024\/06\/18\/sports\/boston-couple-celtics-baby-jrue-holiday\/\">Rashaan and Annabel Powell<\/a> had their second son at 6:17 p.m. on June 17, a couple of hours before the Celtics tipped off Game 5 against the Mavericks.<\/p>\n<p>They named him Jrue in honor of Holiday. It was a game-time decision that was swung by the Celtics\u2019 win, Annabel Powell said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt started with a friend kind of joking because we\u2019re set on Crew, and she said \u2018if the Celtics win you should name him Jrue,\u201d she said. \u201cWe were like \u2018ha, ha, ha\u2019 and then we were like \u2018actually that\u2019s really unique.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe love the way he plays and everything he and his wife do,\u201d she added. \u201cSo, we were like \u2018that\u2019s really fun.\u2019 Last minute, we were like \u2018Are we actually going to do this?\u2019 And then we did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the couple made the trip from Boston to see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/sports\/boston-celtics\/2024\/11\/21\/boston-celtics-white-house-joe-biden-nba-championship-title-18\/?p1=hp_primary\">Celtics celebrate <\/a>at the White House. They brought baby Jrue, wrapped tightly in his mother\u2019s arms and wearing a fuzzy gray Jordan Brand hat.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-full-circle-moment-as-baby-jrue-meets-his-namesake\">\u2018Full-circle moment\u2019 as baby Jrue meets his namesake<\/h2>\n<p>Baby Jrue met his namesake in the heart of the nation\u2019s capital on the day the White House formally acknowledged the championship his hometown team won on his birthday. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy favorite part of the ceremony was obviously meeting Jrue Holiday,\u201d Rashaan Powell said. \u201cAnd having him know a little bit about Jrue and say a couple of kind words to him. As a dad, that was a very amazing moment for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was amazing. Biden smiled as he held the jersey up and posed for a photo.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the ceremony, Biden held up a basketball and pump-faked it before passing it to Al Horford. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it was funny. I wasn\u2019t expecting a pump-fake,\u201d guard Derrick White said. \u201cWe were kind of joking around that it\u2019s hard to make a pass in a suit, so we were kind of impressed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was an emotional day, Celtics governor Wyc Grousbeck said. The last time the Celtics were at the White House was in 2008 during the George W. Bush administration. <\/p>\n<p>Biden praised the Celtics for building one of the deepest NBA teams of all time. He brought up an old quote from Red Auerbach: \u201cThe Celtics are not a basketball team, they are a way of life.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a very exciting and moving day,\u201d Grousbeck said. \u201cWe had not been focused on this. We got through the banner ceremony and opening night and then it was all business \u2026 It was just a meaningful day. We thought his remarks about the Celtics were amazing and we took them to heart and appreciated them. The whole thing was a very special day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the ceremony, the Powells were ready to get baby Jrue out of the cold weather. It was a cool 43 degrees, and the Washington sky was filled with clouds.<\/p>\n<p>They took in a piece of history with their son, who had yet to turn a year old.
