In Estonia, 1,607 people participated.<\/p>\n<p>The winning songs were: Koit&#8221; (T\u00f5nis M\u00e4gi), &#8220;Tuulevaiksel \u00f6\u00f6l&#8221; (Jaan T\u00e4tte), &#8220;P\u00f5hjamaa&#8221; (\u00dclo Vinter, Enn Vetemaa), &#8220;Kungla rahvas&#8221; (K.A. Hermann, F. Kuhlbars), &#8220;Palve&#8221; (T\u00f5nis M\u00e4gi, Villu Kangur) and &#8220;Rongis\u00f5it&#8221; (Gustav Ernesaks, Ellen Niit).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am very pleased that Estonians voted to represent us with such meaningful songs,&#8221; said Kaie Tanner, executive director of the Estonian Choral Association and editor of the Estonian edition of the songbook. &#8220;All these songs hold great significance for Estonians, and hopefully, they will resonate with other Europeans as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Estonian songs were translated into English by Doris Kareva.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If translating poetry can be compared to a sprint and translating a novel to a marathon, then the European Union&#8217;s songbook is more like a decathlon,&#8221; Kareva said, reflecting on her work.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These six songs are not part of a single cycle; each text demands a completely different approach from the translator. The focus, of course, is on singability. It was a serious personal challenge and an instructive experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Six songs from each country are have been included in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eu-songbook.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">book<\/a>, totaling 164.
