{"id":18397,"date":"2024-11-22T23:45:36","date_gmt":"2024-11-22T23:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gpt.m2mbeta.com\/?p=18397"},"modified":"2024-11-22T23:45:36","modified_gmt":"2024-11-22T23:45:36","slug":"rex-ryan-wants-to-coach-jets-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gpt.m2mbeta.com\/?p=18397","title":{"rendered":"Rex Ryan Wants To Coach Jets Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-swiftype-index=\"true\">\n<p>Despite being fired as the Jets\u2019 head coach in 2014, <strong>Rex Ryan<\/strong> wants to return to his former job under owner\u00a0<strong>Woody Johnson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.profootballrumors.com\/files\/2015\/01\/USATSI_8307467.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-12331 size-medium\" style=\"border: 2px solid #000000;margin: 15px\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.profootballrumors.com\/files\/2015\/01\/USATSI_8307467-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.profootballrumors.com\/files\/2015\/01\/USATSI_8307467-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/cdn.profootballrumors.com\/files\/2015\/01\/USATSI_8307467-731x1024.jpg 731w, https:\/\/cdn.profootballrumors.com\/files\/2015\/01\/USATSI_8307467.jpg 1655w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\"\/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2024\/10\/jets-to-fire-hc-robert-saleh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Johnson fired <strong>Robert Saleh<\/strong> at the beginning of October<\/a> after a 2-3 start to the season despite managing seven wins in 2023 after <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RodgAa00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-22_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Aaron Rodgers<\/a><\/strong> played just four snaps before tearing his Achilles.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan made his pitch on an ESPN New York radio show with ex-Jets linebacker\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/ScotBa20.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-22_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bart Scott<\/a><\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/rex-ryan-makes-case-to-return-to-the-jets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">per ProFootballTalk\u2019s Mike Florio<\/a>. Ryan was originally asked about Lions head coach\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CampDa00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-22_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dan Campbell<\/a><\/strong> before pivoting into a passionate pitch to return to his old job in New York.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI had a vision for the team and we weren\u2019t gonna take any s<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014<\/span>,\u201d Ryan said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s exactly how Dan Campbell is. And that\u2019s what I think, the other thing is, too, get a guy that connects with the fan base and all that. That\u2019s why I want to be the next coach of the Jets.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>From there, Ryan took off, promising that he would get the most out of the Jets\u2019 roster and backing Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2024\/11\/woody-johnson-nixed-jets-effort-to-acquire-jerry-jeudy-impeded-joe-douglas-on-bryce-huff-haason-reddick\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">despite recent reports of the owner\u2019s meddling in the team\u2019s personnel decisions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cBlow it up? We\u2019re gonna blow the opponents up,\u201d said Ryan. \u201cThere\u2019s way too much talent on this team to play the way we\u2019ve been playing. Period.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ryan isn\u2019t wrong about the untapped potential in New York. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2024\/11\/jets-fire-gm-joe-douglas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Recently-fired general manager\u00a0<strong>Joe Douglas<\/strong><\/a> may have only led the Jets to a 30-64 record during his tenure, but he did hit on a number of high draft picks. 2019 No. 3 overall pick <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WillQu00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-22_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Quinnen Williams<\/a> <\/strong>is one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, and 2023 draftee <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McDoWi00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-22_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Will McDonald<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TippJo00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-22_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Joe Tippmann<\/a><\/strong> have both emerged as solid starters. Most impressive is the 2022 class, with the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WilsGa00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-22_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Garrett Wilson<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GardSa00.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-22_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sauce Gardner<\/a><\/strong>), a Pro Bowl edge rusher (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JohnJe07.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-22_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jermaine Johnson<\/a><\/strong>), a star running back (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HallBr03.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-22_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Breece Hall<\/a><\/strong>) and a Day 3 interior disruptor (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/ClemMi20.htm?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.profootballrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-22_pfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Michael Clemons<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Ryan also claimed that he can get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2024\/11\/joe-douglas-fallout-jets-johnson-saleh-brown-ravens\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a disillusioned Jets team<\/a> back on track, saying \u201cnobody\u2019s seen a team gonna play the way \u2014 as hard as this team\u2019s going to play in the future, trust me. If I\u2019m the guy. Trust me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan also cited his continued loyalty to the Jets since his 2014 firing, saying that other coaches would not be as dedicated to the franchise.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey ain\u2019t New York Jets. I\u2019m all about the Jets,\u201d he said. \u201cHere\u2019s the great thing. Yeah, you get a second chance at it and that doesn\u2019t happen very often. Well, when it does it\u2019s usually special.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ryan then cleverly praised the Jets\u2019 direction under Johnson\u2019s ownership, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballrumors.com\/2024\/11\/joe-douglas-fallout-jets-johnson-saleh-brown-ravens\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appealing to his former boss\u2019 penchant for relying on yes-men in key positions within the organization<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWoody Johnson was awesome,\u201d said Ryan. \u201cI can just tell you firsthand from my perspective, he was fantastic. You know what he\u2019s guilty of? He\u2019s guilty of giving you what you want. And that\u2019s exactly what happened with this group. He gave them exactly what they wanted.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ryan even defended Johnson\u2019s role in the Jets\u2019 ill-fated acquisition of Rodgers: \u201cYou told him to go get Aaron Rodgers. And so that\u2019s what he did. And it never worked out. But at least he fired his gun. Why? Because he wants a championship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan added that he has not reached out to Johnson about returning to the Jets since the franchise will not start the search for Saleh\u2019s long-term successor until after the end of the regular season.<\/p>\n<p>The Jets went 46-50 in Ryan\u2019s six-year tenure, which included back-to-back AFC Championship appearances in 2009 and 2010.
