WASHINGTON \u2014 The Celtics\u2019 ceremony at the White House Thursday also presented an opportunity for a reunion. <\/span><\/p>\n

Forward Oshae Brissett<\/b>, who is no longer on the roster, joined the team<\/a> and received his championship ring as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s one of my favorite guys I was able to coach. Just his personality, his character, who he is,\u201d Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla <\/b>said. \u201cHe\u2019s a great teammate, so it was great to be able to see him, spend some time with him. I just hope it works out for him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Brissett appeared in 55 regular-season games for the Celtics last season and averaged 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds. This past summer he declined his $2.5 million player option with the team in order to pursue a larger role elsewhere, but he was never signed and he remains a free agent.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201dIt was great to see Oshae. That\u2019s my guy,\u201d Celtics forward Jaylen Brown <\/b>said. \u201cLooking forward to seeing him on a team soon, but definitely good to have him a part of that group. <\/span><\/p>\n

Team sale update<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

Celtics lead owner Wyc Grousbeck <\/b>declined to go into detail about the status of the franchise\u2019s looming sale Thursday. But he made it clear that the process is moving forward with multiple potential suitors.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of interest,\u201d Grousbeck said. \u201cThat is one comment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

There is no definitive timeline, but a league source said it is possible that a buyer could be chosen in December. Sen. Ed Markey <\/b>said following Thursday\u2019s ceremony that he is confident the Celtics will find a suitable steward for the franchise.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI know Wyc will do his best to make sure that the legacy continues to the next generation,\u201d Markey said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prez loves analytics<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

During his speech at the Celtics\u2019 celebration, President Joe Biden <\/b>gave a nod to the basketball analytics world when he pointed out that the Celtics set an NBA record for points per possession last season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mazzulla, whose coaching is often driven by analytics, was asked about Biden\u2019s support.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, we were also good defensively last year, too,\u201d he said, smiling.<\/span><\/p>\n

So why didn\u2019t he point that out to the president?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t the time or the place, I guess,\u201d Mazzulla said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Back to Cup group play<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

Friday\u2019s game against Washington was Boston\u2019s third NBA Cup group-play matchup. It entered the night 1-1, with a group play game remaining against the Bulls next Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnything to try to increase the viewership is the goal for the NBA and the NBPA,\u201d Brown said. \u201cSo we had to do something, so this was the start of that journey. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think we\u2019ll get some better feedback after this year. Still early, only two years in. But we\u2019ll still adjust.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Sick day for Big Al<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

Celtics forward Al Horford <\/b>missed Friday\u2019s game due to an illness, and Neemias Queta<\/b> started in his place . . . Kristaps Porzingis <\/b>remains sidelined following offseason ankle surgery, but he is expected to begin practicing with the team soon.<\/span><\/p>\n
