Donald Trump\u2019s former national security adviser<\/a> made a stark assessment on Friday of the incoming president\u2019s pick to serve on his new national security team \u2013 and had some choice words for his former boss.<\/p>\n

\u201cSebastian Gorka is a con man,\u201d John Bolton<\/a> said bluntly just after Trump<\/a>\u00a0announced<\/a> Gorka as his choice to be a White House<\/a> deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism. But Bolton didn\u2019t stop there, telling CNN\u2019s Kaitlan Collins<\/a> during an appearance on \u201cThe Source\u201d that Gorka\u2019s past deserves a thorough government probe.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe needs a full-field FBI background investigation<\/a> about his educational claims and things like that,\u201d Bolton said. \u201cI think he is a perfect example of somebody who owes his position purely to Donald Trump \u2013 he doesn’t display loyalty, he displays fealty \u2013 and that’s what Trump wants.”<\/p>\n

Bolton\u2019s comments came during a discussion about Trump\u2019s other selections in the buildout of his national security team, including Tulsi Gabbard<\/a> as director of national intelligence<\/a> and Alex Wong, who was named an assistant to the president and principal deputy national security adviser. <\/p>\n

But it was Gorka that elicited the most criticism from Bolton, who also served as George W. Bush\u2019s U.N. ambassador. While the longtime Republican took comfort with Gorka not being selected for a more high-level national security position, he took a shot at Trump when he said he wouldn\u2019t place Gorka \u201cin any U.S. government” position, but explained why Trump did just that.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn’t want Gorka\u2019s opinions, he wants Gorka to say, \u2018Yes, sir,\u2019 and I am fully confident that’s exactly what will happen, no matter what it is, Trump says,\u201d Bolton added.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure he will have a lot of thoughts on those comments from you,\u201d Collins replied.<\/p>\n
