Frank Munford says he “can’t help” but collect crisp-related items<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

A man who collects vintage crisp packets and memorabilia has said he does not actually like the snacks.<\/p>\n

Seventy-year-old Frank Munford, from Lincoln, began his collection five years ago.<\/p>\n

Alongside packets from long-gone brands such as Tudor Crisps, he has limited edition mugs, a crisp advent calendar and a Walkers jacket.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never met any other crisp packet collector,\u201d Mr Munford said. “I\u2019d like to so we can exchange information and maybe packets.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mr Munford says friends have encouraged his hobby<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n
\n

Mr Munford has more than 100 crisp packets, with the oldest dating from the early Seventies. He describes the collection as a “part of social history”.<\/p>\n

The feeling of “the chase” and completing a set has kept his hobby alive. <\/p>\n

However, despite pouring so much time into his collection, Mr Munford said he was not keen on eating crisps.<\/p>\n

If he had to pick a favourite flavour, it would be cheese and onion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mr Munford also collects vintage crisp prizes, which could be claimed from companies, including these butterfly brooches<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n
\n

Among the more unusual items in his collection is a full set of Tudor “Flutter-Byes” \u2013 butterfly brooch pins which customers could claim from the company.<\/p>\n

“You would\u2019ve had to have eaten 240 packets of crisps to claim that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Munford belongs to a collector\u2019s club in Lincoln and said his friends were \u201cencouraging\u201d about his crisp compendium.<\/p>\n

His wife Pam is also supportive. “I’m proud of him, proud of what he\u2019s achieved and done over the years,” Mrs Munford said.<\/p>\n

“The family has grown up with his collecting,” she added. \u201cIt\u2019s just dad.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Among Mr Munford\u2019s favourite items is his set of Tudor Crisps mugs, which cost \u00a380<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

Mr Munford said his collecting would \u201cnever end\u201d because \u201cI can’t help myself\u201d.<\/p>\n

He urged fellow collectors to be proud of their hobby, never embarrassed.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t be a closet collector, come out,” he added.<\/p>\n
