He noted that she will continue to anchor her primetime show, The Source with Kaitlan Collins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKaitlan Collins is the perfect person to lead coverage of the new Trump White House,\u201d Thompson said in a statement. \u201cKaitlan is a political journalist of real depth and tenacity who already boasts an amazing record of scoops and exclusive interviews.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Collins is returning to the beat that made her a rising star at CNN. During the first Trump administration, she was famously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-44963659\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">barred from a 2018 Rose Garden event<\/a> after asking questions that officials deemed \u201cinappropriate.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Collins again tangled with Trump during a CNN-hosted town hall in 2023, during which she repeatedly pressed him on his guilty verdict in\u00a0<strong>E. Jean Carroll\u2019s<\/strong> lawsuit and his false claims about the legitimacy of the 2020 election. The Republican presidential candidate eventually lashed out and called her a \u201cnasty person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think if you\u2019re interviewing an elected official who is paid by the taxpayers, they shouldn\u2019t like all of your questions. Or, they should at least get them off their talking points and make them uncomfortable,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/tvnewser\/5-questions-for-kaitlan-collins-cnn-town-halls\/\" target=\"_blank\">Collins recently told TVNewser<\/a>. \u201cI always seek to be fair and respectful, but what\u2019s the point of interviewing someone if you\u2019re not going to go there and ask them what everyone\u2019s thinking?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Collins\u2019 previous White House coverage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/tvnewser\/heres-more-information-about-kaitlan-collins-new-primetime-cnn-show\/\" target=\"_blank\">led to her anchoring The Source<\/a> last year, bringing stability to what had been a troublesome time period for the network. The show has also brought Republican and conservative personalities onto CNN\u2019s airwaves.
