Kmart is celebrating the 37th annual Wishing Tree Appeal this year with Australia\u2019s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese the first to put an unwrapped gift<\/a> under the dedicated tree at Canberra\u2019s Parliament House.<\/p>\n

After nearly four decades the need for the 2024 Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal<\/a> has never been greater.<\/p>\n

Financial stress levels in Australia have hit their highest point in 10 years<\/a> according to new analysis by AMP, which found that just one in three working Aussies feel financially secure as cost-of-living pressures mount \u2014 down from one in two Aussies during the pandemic.<\/p>\n

A survey from The Salvation Army<\/a> found that of those financially struggling, Aussies were left with only $8 per week \u2014 just over $1 per day \u2014 to save or spend on non-essentials after paying for both housing costs and other essential household expenses such as groceries, medical costs and utilities.<\/p>\n

This leaves families with extremely little to put towards the holiday period<\/a> and even less towards Christmas gifts for their families.<\/p>\n

To date the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal<\/a> has provided 14 million gifts to those in need at Christmas time.<\/p>\n
