Georgia is suspending its E.U. membership bid until the end of 2028, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Thursday, according<\/a> to Georgian media.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve decided not to put the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028,\u201d he said in a press briefing.<\/p>\n

According to Kobakhidze, Georgia will also decline any budgetary grants from the E.U. He said that the end of 2028 is the point when Georgia will be sufficiently prepared to begin E.U. accession talks in 2030.<\/p>\n

The prime minister further stated<\/a> that relations between Georgia and the E.U. are and must remain bilateral.:<\/p>\n
