Prime Minister Christopher Luxon<\/a> is set to speak to media the day after the report from the first phase<\/a> of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Covid-19 response was released.<\/p>\n

Yesterday it was revealed the report found some vaccine requirements were \u201capplied too broadly and remained in place for too long\u201d.<\/p>\n

This \u201ccaused harm to individuals and families and contributed to loss of social capital\u201d and the consequent loss of trust may have hurt the ability to respond to future pandemics, the inquiry said.<\/p>\n

Included among the key findings of the report was that the \u201cuse of compulsion\u201d \u2013 including mandating various public health measures \u2013 was one of the \u201cmost controversial aspects\u201d of the Covid-19 response.<\/p>\n

This included the decision to put requirements around vaccines, described in the report as a \u201cmajor source of tension and social division\u201d, with \u201cstrongly held views both for and against their use\u201d.<\/p>\n
