PRIME Minister Keir Starmer has vowed to bring \u2018good jobs and growth\u2019 to Barnsley and says all homes and businesses in the town will have low-cost heating by 2050.<\/p>\n
The Labour government\u2019s Great British Energy plan claims to cut bills and create good jobs in the town – and in a letter to Chronicle readers, he promised they will help support locals in the years to come.<\/p>\n
It will be a publicly-owned clean energy company, managing and operating project, such as wind farms, up and down the country.<\/p>\n
Sir Keir said he will invest in the whole of Barnsley – and is determined to help the town grow.<\/p>\n
He told the Chronicle: \u201cIt\u2019s absolutely right that we honour those who contributed so much to our country.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut that\u2019s not enough.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust as I fought for miners\u2019 jobs decades ago as a lawyer, as Prime Minister I\u2019m determined that their children will have the good, well-paid jobs of the future. <\/p>\n
\u201cThese communities will continue to power our nation for generations to come.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re launching a clean energy revolution.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve set up Great British Energy, to cut bills, boost our energy independence and create good jobs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re bringing investment into communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
The scheme will also see the launch of the \u2018Barnsley Heat Network\u2019 which will bring low-cost heating to everyone in the town over the next 25 years.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cThe Barnsley Heat Network will offer low carbon, lower cost heating to all homes and businesses in Barnsley town by 2050.<\/p>\n
\u201cConstruction will start early next year, bringing good jobs and growth to Barnsley.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the Budget, we announced funding for 11 new hydrogen projects around the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of these will be in Bradford.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will generate \u00a3120m for the local economy and support the creation of up to 125 new jobs in Yorkshire.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s on top of the other changes we\u2019re making. We\u2019re driving the biggest uplift to workers rights in a generation – ending fire and rehire, scrapping exploitative zero hours contracts and protecting maternity and paternity rights.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re increasing the National Living Wage, which will put an extra \u00a31,400 a year in the pockets of working people.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd we\u2019re protecting the triple lock for those who have worked hard all their lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll my life, I\u2019ve stood with mining communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith this government, we will make sure they have the respect they deserve, the good jobs they need and the opportunities for a better future.\u201d<\/p>\n
