{"id":19708,"date":"2024-11-29T20:12:02","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T20:12:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gpt.m2mbeta.com\/?p=19708"},"modified":"2024-11-29T20:12:02","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T20:12:02","slug":"prime-minister-trudeau-adds-7-1-million-to-p-e-i-school-food-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gpt.m2mbeta.com\/?p=19708","title":{"rendered":"Prime Minister Trudeau adds $7.1 million to P.E.I. school food program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>MOUNT STEWART, P.E.I. \u2013 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau travelled to a public school in eastern Prince Edward Island Friday where he announced $7.1 million in federal support over three years for the Island\u2019s school food program. <\/p>\n<p>The money is from Ottawa\u2019s $1-billion, five-year universal, national school food program that was promised during the 2021 election campaign and announced as part of the 2024 budget. Trudeau travelled to Prince Edward Island today where he announced $7.1 million over three years to support that province\u2019s school lunch program THE CANADIAN PRESS\/Adrian Wyld<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Trudeau said the funding would add to the Island\u2019s existing school food program providing thousands more breakfasts and snacks to students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is about knowing that there will be good nutritious food that they (students) can get as they need it at school \u2026 and extra pressure off parents,\u201d said Trudeau. According to a news release, a two-child family on the Island would save an average of $800 annually on grocery bills if they use the program.<\/p>\n<p>The funding will also support food transportation and storage along with the acquisition of preparation equipment and result in an estimated 438,000 more meals served during the current school year.<\/p>\n<p>The P.E.I. program has two streams: a free breakfast and snack program that has been operating since 2008, and a \u201cpay-as-you-can\u201d lunch program, which has been serving meals since 2020.
