In an interview with Q&A this morning, the Prime
\nMinister refused to say whether he would commit to meeting
\nthe Paris Agreement, the international climate agreement
\nwhich commits all countries to act locally to keep global
\nwarming below 1.5 degrees.<\/p>\n

\u201cClimate commitments
\naren\u2019t numbers on a page to be toyed with at political
\nwhim. They\u2019re hard scientific limits, requiring each
\ncountry to do our bit for a liveable planet,\u201d says Green
\nParty Co-Leader and spokesperson for Climate Change Chl\u00f6e
\nSwarbrick.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis morning, Christopher
\nLuxon basically told the nation he didn\u2019t care, refusing
\nto commit to meeting the promises we\u2019ve made
\ninternationally as recently as last week with his Climate
\nMinister at COP29.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cChange is
\nunfortunately already locked in because of decades of
\npolitical neglect. We\u2019ve seen the consequences in ever
\nmore frequent climate change charged weather events ravaging
\nrural and urban Aotearoa. Political leaders today are
\nactively choosing whether to make that worse, or to act with
\nurgency.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the man who styles himself a CEO
\nfocussed on targets and deliverables tells you he doesn\u2019t
\nwant to commit to meeting the hard scientific limits for our
\ncollective survival, he\u2019s telling you he cares more about
\nprofit than people or the planet.<\/p>\n

\u201cClimate change
\nhas been created by extractive, short-term economic thinking
\nexemplified by Christopher Luxon\u2019s so-called
\nleadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cA better world is
\npossible.<\/p>\n

\u201cNext weekend the Greens will unveil our
\nalternative Emissions Reduction Plan (ERP), which will make
\ncrystal clear that we can have an economy that supports
\npeople and the planet, instead of exploiting and exhausting
