Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove is in intensive care in hospital after collapsing on the pitch during his side’s Serie A match against Inter Milan on Sunday.<\/b><\/p>\n

The match was suspended after the incident in the 16th minute before later being abandoned.<\/p>\n

A Fiorentina statement, external<\/span><\/a> said Bove, 22, is “currently under pharmacological sedation and hospitalised in intensive care”.<\/p>\n

The Italian club have said he will be re-evaluated in the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n

“He arrived at the emergency room in stable hemodynamic conditions and the first cardiological and neurological tests performed have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system,” the statement concluded.<\/p>\n

Bove suddenly fell to the ground, causing a stoppage in play with both sets of players immediately signalling for the medical staff to enter the field before forming a protective ring around him.<\/p>\n

He was taken away on a stretcher and put into a waiting ambulance after the referee asked both set of players to leave the pitch.<\/p>\n

The midfielder joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan from Roma in August, with a view to make the deal permanent.<\/p>\n

His first goal for La Viola came in October against his parent club.<\/p>\n

The Italian has played for his country all the way up to under-21 level, but is yet to earn a senior cap.<\/p>\n

Fiorentina are third in Serie A, level on points with Inter.<\/p>\n

Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso said: “Forza Edoardo, we\u2019re with you. You\u2019re a strong boy with a great character. We\u2019re reaching out to his family during these moments.”<\/p>\n

Giuseppe Marotta, Inter president, said to Sky Italia: “Inter and the entire football world express their closeness to Bove’s family and Fiorentina.<\/p>\n

“The decision to postpone the match was spontaneous on everyone’s part, we are a community, all the players and even the referee were emotionally involved. We hope it is nothing serious.”<\/p>\n

Bove’s team-mate David de Gea, the former Manchester United goalkeeper, posted on X, external<\/span><\/a>: “God please.” The message was accompanied with a prayer hands emoji.<\/p>\n

His parent club, Roma, also added on X, external<\/span><\/a>: “One of us, we are all with you.”<\/p>\n

Serie A’s official X account, external<\/span><\/a> said: “Forza Edoardo. We’re all with you.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
