Melania Trump makes historic White House decision ahead of Donald's second term

Melania Trump has made her feelings known about her upcoming move to the White House. The wife of US president-elect Donald Trump is gearing up for her second time in Washington, DC’s most powerful residence.

There has been much back and forth about whether the 54-year-old will remain at Mar-a-Lago, head back to New York – where her teenage son is living at Fifth’s Avenue Trump Tower – or head back to Washington, DC for good.

Discussions are ongoing, multiple sources told CNN, but as she is not scared to shun tradition – recently turning down a traditional tea at the White House with Jill Biden for a “disgusting” reason – there are rumblings that Melania will continue not to conform to the First Lady etiquette expected of her when it comes to living arrangements.

“I’m not anxious because this time is different. I have much more experience and much more knowledge,” Trump told Fox News recently. “I was in the White House before. When you go in, you know exactly what to expect.”

Sources close with Melania say she would prefer not to be so much in the public eye, and her spouse’s team do not object to this. Insiders consider her a rock in Trump’s life, offering him counsel and words of comfort when needed.

She was even heard giving the Republican a pep talk before a CNN town hall and giving her two pence ahead of his June debate with President Biden, one source said.

“She has carte blanche – she can be as active in the East Wing or as inactive as she cares to be,” said Kate Bennett, a former CNN White House correspondent who chronicled Melania Trump’s first tenure and author of “Free, Melania.”

Trump is expected to spend a majority of her time over the next four years between New York City and Palm Beach, Florida, sources told CNN. However, they insisted she would still be present for major events and would have her own platform and priorities as first lady. It comes as Melania made a sweet promise to her son Barron.

The Slovenian native is a committed mother to 18-year-old Barron, who is studying at NYU, and according to the New York Post’s sources, will split her time between New York, Florida, and DC, so she can be “hands-on” with him.

“Melania will be the first lady, but only on her terms,” the Mar-a-Lago insider said.

She’ll do the big events but no ladies’ tea and no — or very few — interviews. She views winning as the main show, and the rest she’ll do as she pleases. She’s really in the driver’s seat as to her duties at the White House.

“Melania will be a part time first lady — while being a full-time mother and wife.”
