Donald Trump has announced that Karoline Leavitt, his campaign spokeswoman, will serve as White House press secretary in his next administration. At just 27 years old, Leavitt will become the youngest person to hold the position in U.S. history, surpassing Ron Ziegler, who was 29 when appointed by Richard Nixon in 1969.
In a statement, Trump expressed confidence in Leavitt’s abilities, calling her “smart, tough, and a highly effective communicator.” He highlighted her background as a former candidate for Congress and her previous experience in the Trump White House press office. “She will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American people as we Make America Great Again,” Trump said.
Leavitt, a New Hampshire native, studied communications and political science at Saint Anselm College, where she interned at Fox News and the White House. After graduating in 2019, she joined the Trump administration, first as a presidential writer and later as assistant press secretary. She also worked as communications director for Rep. Elise Stefanik before running for Congress in 2022, where she won the GOP nomination but lost in the general election to Democrat Chris Pappas.
Leavitt’s policy positions closely mirror Trump’s, particularly on issues like taxes, law enforcement, and border security. She also gained national attention for her role in Trump’s 2024 campaign, where she has served as his press secretary.
Leavitt’s appointment is seen as a significant move in Trump’s effort to rebuild his administration, with a familiar face at the helm of communications in a high-stakes political environment.
