Prime Minister attends Caricom-India Summit in Guyana

Honourable Dickon Mitchell Prime Minister and Chairman of Caricom attends the second Caricom-India Summit in Guyana scheduled for 20 November 2024.

This historic summit will bring together Heads of Government of Caricom and provide a significant opportunity to strengthen partnerships with India.

The Second Caricom-India Summit is expected to further solidify bilateral cooperation between Caricom and India in energy and infrastructure, agriculture and food security, health and pharmaceuticals, technology and innovation, as well as human resources and capacity building. This Summit follows the first Meeting of Heads of State of Government of Caricom and India which took place in September 2019 in the margins of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Honourable Dickon Mitchell’s attendance underscores Grenada’s commitment to fostering regional and international cooperation that aligns with our national priorities, particularly climate change and economic development.

During the summit, the Prime Minister is expected to engage in high-level discussions and bilateral meetings with Prime Minister of India Honourable Narendra Modi emphasising the community’s commitment to advancing our collective interests while leveraging opportunities to collaborate with India.

While in Guyana, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to participate in the Second Regional Symposium on Crime and Violence as a Public Health Issue carded for 22–23 November.

Honourable Dickon Mitchell will participate in the opening day sessions, which will be dedicated to plenary roundtable discussions for Heads of States and Government on the following:

  • Criminal groups, cultural influences
  • Cultural influences on crime, the role of music and its influence on crime
  • Trust in law enforcement institutions and its impact on crime and violence
  • Reform of the criminal justice sector and offender management

The second day of the symposium will feature technical workshops for developing actionable solutions for implementation on the national level.
