President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering significant changes to White House press briefings, a move that could diminish the role of traditional media outlets in favor of emerging media figures. According to Donald Trump Jr., Trump is exploring options to accommodate podcast hosts such as Joe Rogan and Megyn Kelly in the White House briefing room.

Speaking on his podcast, Triggered with Donald Trump Jr., Trump Jr. revealed that the idea was discussed during a recent conversation with his father. “We were talking about the podcast world and some of our friends like Rogan and others,” Trump Jr. said. He added that his father responded positively, saying, “That’s a great idea, Don.”

The White House press briefing room has limited seating, with only 49 spots for credentialed journalists. While the White House controls who receives press credentials, the independent White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) determines the seating arrangement. This structure may complicate efforts to reorganize the briefing room.

During Trump’s first term, his administration clashed with traditional media, temporarily banning CNN’s Jim Acosta from the briefing room. The White House eventually reinstated Acosta following a legal challenge. The potential changes discussed by Trump Jr. reflect the president-elect’s continued interest in reshaping how the media interacts with his administration.

Podcasts have surged in popularity, becoming a dominant force in modern media. However, it remains uncertain whether figures like Joe Rogan or Megyn Kelly would seek or accept a seat in the press briefing room. The WHCA may also resist such changes, given its longstanding alignment with legacy outlets.

Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow joined Trump Jr. and Michael Knowles on the Triggered episode. During their discussion, Trump Jr. also suggested that Marlow could lead a transformation of MSNBC if Elon Musk were to acquire the network. “[Marlow] would make that network worth watching again,” Trump Jr. joked.

This proposed restructuring of White House press briefings highlights Trump’s strategy to elevate new media while challenging the dominance of legacy outlets. As the transition to his second term progresses, these changes could set a precedent for how future administrations engage with the press.
