The George Washington & Jefferson National Forests have delivered a 30-foot red spruce tree from Grayson County to the nation’s capital for the holiday season.
The Mount Rogers National Recreation Area felled and transported the National Christmas Tree to the White House on Nov. 15, according to the National Park Service.
The tree came from the portion of the recreation area in Grayson.
This marks the second year the USDA Forest Service and National Park Service have partnered to provide the National Christmas Tree.
The Monongahela National Forest from West Virginia provided the 2023 National Christmas Tree.
The tree from Grayson County is located on the Ellipse at The White House and President’s Park, and can be viewed by the public beginning Dec. 7, the park service reported.
“Supplying this beautiful National Christmas Tree to the White House marks a significant moment for the George Washington & Jefferson National Forests,” said Forest Supervisor Job Timm. “Our Mount Rogers National Recreation Area was impacted by Hurricane Helene, but like the agency, the National Christmas Tree stands strong and tall.
What better way show unity and joy during the holiday season?”
The National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place Dec. 5.
