Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that “we are facing a very hard winter”. He said at the beginning of a government meeting on Wednesday that “it is necessary to prepare” for a possible crisis that could arise for two reasons, INFOTAG reports.

“First, it is a possible cutoff of (Russian) gas supplies to the left bank, where almost 350,000 people live, most of them our citizens, who risk being left without heating and electricity. This could turn into a humanitarian catastrophe. These are our citizens, and we must find a solution in case of a crisis, which may occur because “Gazprom” will not fulfill its contractual obligations,” Prime Minister explained.

Recean named the second reason as the increase in natural gas tariffs (Moldovagaz submitted the relevant request the day before).

“This request should be thoroughly and transparently analyzed. But, in any case, the government will be together with the citizens,” the official said.

According to Recean, the upcoming parliamentary hearings on the tariff increase will provide answers to numerous questions related to the justification of such a measure.
